Tragic E-Scooter Crash in Essex Claims Two Young Lives
Two children are dead after a horrific crash involving an e-scooter and a car in Pitsea, Essex. Roman Casselden, 16, and his sister Darcie, 9, lost their lives in the smash on Ashlyns on February 1 last year.
Driver Flees Scene But Gets Caught
The privately owned e-scooter collided with a car driven by 21-year-old Deimante Ziobryte from Benfleet. While police found no offences linked to the crash’s cause, Ziobryte failed to stop at the scene and fled.
Essex Police launched a Serious Collision Investigation and tracked Ziobryte down nearby. She was promptly charged with leaving the scene of a collision.
Guilty Plea and Sentencing Ahead
Ziobryte pleaded guilty at Basildon Magistrates’ Court on March 6. She is set to be sentenced at the same court on May 6.
“My thoughts, and those of my team, are with Roman and Darcie’s friends and family,” said Detective Sergeant Sam Nason, who led the investigation.
