Daring Rescue on Freezing River Humber
A dramatic rescue unfolded on Wednesday afternoon as Humber Rescue saved a stranded person caught in the icy, raging River Humber. Battling brutal tides and freezing conditions, the brave crew pulled off a lifesaving mission against the odds.
Call for Help Amid Raging Tides
At around 3:25pm on 21 January, alarm bells rang when a distressed individual was spotted struggling in the River Humber. What should have been a quick journey turned into a battle against the fierce currents, doubling the time it took Humber Rescue to reach the stranded person.
Helicopter Fails to Winch Victim to Safety
The Coastguard’s ‘Rescue 912’ helicopter joined the hunt, but tricky river conditions stopped them from winching the casualty out. The stranded individual clung to a lifeline, but pulling them ashore proved no easy feat.
Multi-Agency Heroics Bring Relief
Finally, Humber Rescue’s crew arrived and got the person safely onboard. Paramedics rushed in to treat them onshore. Thankfully, injuries were minor – just cold and wet survivors of a chilling ordeal.
“This was a fast-paced, multi-agency incident with a successful outcome, made possible through effective joint working between all emergency services,” Humber Rescue said.
Thanks to Humber Rescue and the Coastguard’s swift, skilled teamwork, a potentially deadly river rescue ended safely despite the harsh conditions.
