Fatal Incident at Maidstone Level Crossing Sparks Rail Chaos
Southeastern rail services ground to a halt yesterday afternoon (October 20) after a tragic fatality at a level crossing in Maidstone threw the network into turmoil.
Victim Pronounced Dead at Scene
Emergency crews raced to the scene just after 1.20pm following urgent reports of a casualty on the tracks. Despite their prompt response, the individual was sadly declared dead at the scene.
A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called at around 1.20pm today (20 October) to reports of a casualty on the tracks at a level crossing in Maidstone. Officers responded with paramedics, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries into the circumstances leading up to the incident are ongoing.”
Major Delays and Cancellations Across Strood to Paddock Wood
Train services between Strood and Paddock Wood were hit hard, with cancellations and severe delays. Maidstone West also suffered as Southeastern struggled to get services back on track.
