Tragic Crash at Staples Corner: Three Dead, Two Critical

Police were called at 11.26pm on Sunday, 14 April, following a horrific car crash at Staples Corner retail park. A Mercedes CLK convertible carrying five young men smashed through a car park fence before tumbling down an embankment and hitting a footbridge. Authorities say the car didn’t collide with any other vehicle.

Five Young Men Involved, Three Dead at Scene

Emergency crews from the London Fire Brigade, London Ambulance Service, and London’s Air Ambulance rushed to the scene. They found five men, all believed to be in their early 20s.

Tragically, three men died instantly. Two others were rushed to hospital—one in critical condition, the other with non-life-threatening injuries.

Ongoing Investigation and Road Closures

Police believe several cars were parked nearby and are working to trace everyone present during the incident. No arrests have been made, and authorities confirmed the Mercedes was not stolen.

Inspector 1 McDonald, leading the Barnet police response, said:

“Emergency services responded last night to what seems to have been a terrible accident. An urgent police investigation is under way to establish the full circumstances, led by detectives from the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit. Officers are in the process of informing the families of the five young people. The families are being supported by specialist officers. I send them my sincere condolences.”

The complex recovery caused major road closures around the retail park, but all roads have now reopened.

Witness Appeal

Police urge anyone who saw the crash or has dashcam/mobile footage to contact 101, quoting reference 7502/14april.
