Knife-Wielding Man Arrested Inside Raunds Asda
A 22-year-old man was arrested after causing alarm inside Asda on Michael Way, Raunds, last night.
Armed Police Step In
At around 9.10pm on Thursday, Northamptonshire Police received multiple calls reporting a man brandishing a knife inside the store. Armed officers arrived quickly and detained the suspect without incident. He was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and remains in custody.
No Injuries Amid Scare
Thankfully, no one was hurt during the tense encounter. Staff and customers were swiftly evacuated to safety.
Police Praise Asda Staff and Urge Witnesses to Come Forward
“This was a terrifying experience for the staff at Asda,” said East Northants Neighbourhood Policing Sgt Leigh Françoise Goodwin. “I want to pay tribute to them for keeping customers safe.”
“Incidents like this are exceptionally rare, but our swift armed response shows we’re ready for anything to protect the public.”
Sgt Goodwin also urged witnesses to come forward. “If you saw what happened but haven’t spoken to police, please call 101 or report anonymously on 0800 555111.”
