Two Men Charged with Murder in Brighton After Six Years
Nearly six years on, two men have finally been charged with murder over a horrific attack in Brighton that left Cameron Devlin dead.
Brutal North Street Attack Led to Death
Cameron Devlin, 34, was viciously assaulted by a group of men on North Street in the early hours of 21 December 2019. He suffered a severe shoulder injury and, despite medical treatment, died from complications five days later on Christmas Day, 26 December.
Police Nabbed Suspects Fast, Charges Follow Long Probe
Officers acted quickly after the attack, arresting four men at Brighton Station shortly after the assault, with a fifth suspect caught the following month. After a lengthy investigation involving national experts, the Crown Prosecution Service has now authorised murder charges against two men:
- Oliver Priddle, 25, from Peacock Lane, Brighton
- Niraj Amaidas, 24, from Colwyn Close, Crawley
Both men face charges of murder and causing grievous bodily harm with intent. Priddle also faces a charge of possessing a Class C drug. They are due to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 25 September.
Detective Inspector Demands Privacy for Victim’s Family
“This has been a lengthy and complex investigation, which has taken a considerable period of time to reach this stage,” said Detective Inspector James Meanwell of the Major Crime Team. “Following the conclusion of all necessary enquiries, charges have now been authorised. Our thoughts remain with Cameron’s family, who will be fully supported as proceedings continue. They ask for privacy at this time.”
