Tributes Pour In for Beloved Chief Fire Officer
Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service (DFRS) is reeling after the sudden death of Chief Fire Officer and Chief Executive Rob Taylor. The respected leader passed away last night following a brief illness.
In an emotional statement, DFRS extended their heartfelt condolences to Mr Taylor’s family and friends. “Our thoughts are with them at this incredibly difficult time,” the service said. Support is being offered to staff and relatives, with a plea for privacy as they mourn the loss.
From Firefighter to Fire Chief: Taylor’s Journey
Rob Taylor’s career began in 2008 at Buxton Fire Station after transferring from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service. His dedication saw him rise swiftly through the ranks, becoming Deputy Chief Fire Officer in August 2021.
Just this February, Taylor took the helm as Chief Fire Officer and Chief Executive, a role he held for only a few months before his untimely death.

To maintain stability, Deputy Chief Fire Officer Mick Sharman has been appointed acting Chief Fire Officer. Area Manager Clive Stanbrook will continue as acting Deputy Chief Fire Officer during this period of transition.
