Tractor ploughs through A20 bridge barriers and crashes onto M20 below
Dashcam footage has captured a terrifying moment when a tractor pulling a trailer smashed through barriers on the A20 bridge at Wrotham before crashing down onto the motorway beneath. The driver was left seriously injured in the dramatic incident.
Tractor loses control at roundabout
The crash happened at around 11.17am on Monday 18 August. Video shows the trailer becoming unbalanced as the tractor negotiated a roundabout. The vehicle then lost control, hurdling through roadside barriers on the A20 bridge.
Emergency airlift and motorway shutdown
Emergency services, including an air ambulance, rushed to the scene. The unnamed tractor driver was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries. Thankfully, no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
The M20 was shut in both directions for several hours while recovery crews cleared wreckage and safety inspections were carried out on the damaged bridge.
Major delays as motorway remains closed
National Highways stated that thorough inspections were essential before reopening the motorway, causing significant delays across Kent.
Police launch appeal for witnesses
Officers are urging anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage of the tractor before the incident to come forward and assist with their enquiries.
