Monkey Dust Madness: 71-Year-Old Sets House Ablaze in Stoke-on-Trent

A 71-year-old man has been locked up after a shocking monkey dust-fuelled rampage that left £100,000 worth of destruction in a quiet Stoke-on-Trent street.

Walter Harrison, a notorious long-term offender, pleaded guilty to arson with intent to endanger life at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court. He was sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison.

Naked Fury and Fire Chaos

The mayhem kicked off in the early hours of August 17, 2024, in Churnet View, Leek, when locals spotted Harrison roaming naked, shouting gibberish and hurling objects. Smoke was seen billowing from his home.

Within minutes, Harrison had set fire to his bedding. Prosecutor Emily Andrews revealed the blaze started from combustible materials on his bed, including a duvet, pillows and mattress, deliberately ignited with a lighter.

The fire rapidly spread through his bedroom, living room, and hallway, ravaging the property. Harrison was arrested on the scene but taken to hospital for smoke inhalation before being questioned.

Thankfully, Harrison’s dog Axel was rescued safely and is now in the care of the RSPCA.

Criminal Record and Community Outcry

Harrison’s criminal past is extensive, with 23 convictions for 53 offences, many linked to his chaotic lifestyle and drug abuse. His solicitor, Barry White, said:

“He is sorry for what happened and appreciates the damage he caused and the risks he posed. Perhaps prison has become a second home to him.”

The incident has rattled the mostly elderly residents of Churnet View, which also hosts a nearby middle school. Judge Trevor Meegan stressed the impact, saying:

“There’s around £100,000 worth of damage — that is a loss for the community, a loss of houses for elderly people, which are in need.”

The house will need to be completely gutted and rebuilt, leaving neighbours facing both financial strain and emotional distress.

Monkey Dust: The Deadly Drug Terrorising Midlands

This shocking case highlights the growing dangers of monkey dust, a synthetic drug known to cause uncontrollable paranoia, aggression, and hallucinations. Such incidents have risen sharply, especially across the Midlands, alarming police and health officials alike.

Authorities urge the public to report any signs of monkey dust use or distribution due to its unpredictable and dangerous effects.
