79-Year-Old Mauled by Rottweilers in Bognor Regis
A 79-year-old pensioner, Vic Franklin, has shared the terrifying moment he was brutally attacked by two rampaging Rottweilers in Bognor Regis.
Life-Changing Injuries After Sudden Attack
The ordeal happened on August 18, 2023, when the dogs broke free from their property and lunged at Vic as he walked his own dog. The savage attack left him with catastrophic injuries. Vic underwent major surgery, resulting in amputations of his left leg, right arm, and left hand.
Despite his devastating injuries, Vic remains determined. “I get down at times, but I pull myself out of it and carry on,” he said.
Swift Emergency Response and Heroic Intervention
Emergency services, including specialist firearms officers, rushed to the scene. Both dogs were shot and put down to prevent further harm. Vic praised the medical teams and the quick-acting first responders, as well as local hero Jim Jones, who bravely stepped in to stop the attack.
Owners Sentenced for Dangerous Dogs Offence
The dogs’ owners, Matthew Roberts, 30, and Chloe Taylor, 27, have pleaded guilty under the Dangerous Dogs Act. Taylor was handed 27 months behind bars. Roberts received a 12-month suspended sentence alongside 100 hours of unpaid work. Both were banned from owning dogs for the next decade.
Detective Chief Inspector Ali Hutchings described Vic as “remarkable,” praising his incredible resilience and urging the public to take irresponsible dog ownership seriously.
