Woman Faces Justice After Abandoning 35 Puppies in Filthy Caravan

Puppies Rescued from Horror Caravan in Eastbourne

A woman has been sentenced after dumping a rundown caravan packed with 35 puppies and a dog in Eastbourne. Authorities found the poor animals living in appalling, filthy conditions.

The shocking discovery happened on July 26, 2021, when a member of the public spotted the caravan at Lister Road Industrial Estate. Sussex Police and RSPCA inspectors forced their way inside to a nightmare scene.

Inside were Labradors, Dachshunds, and French Bulldogs surrounded by squalor. PC Marie Jenner of Sussex Police’s Rural Crime Team described the horror:

“The whole floor was covered in faeces and urine-soaked cardboard. There were exposed wires, nails and screws, and broken pieces of wood and tools throughout. The conditions were completely uninhabitable.”

The dehydrated puppies were crammed into makeshift pens with water. Fourteen had to be rushed to hospital. Tragically, one Dachshund died from starvation and dehydration.

Investigation Pinpoints Owner

CCTV footage revealed the caravan was towed to the industrial site at 3 a.m. by a 4×4. The owner, 35-year-old Micaela Anderson-Letts from Sunbury-on-Thames, was arrested and charged under the Animal Welfare Act.

Court Hammers Down Sentence

Anderson-Letts pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering at Kingston Crown Court on January 7. She was handed:

  • 24 months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years
  • An indefinite animal banning order
  • 300 hours of unpaid community work

Police Praise Teamwork in Puppy Rescue

PC Jenner praised the multi-agency effort that brought the case to a close:

“This has been a complex case involving various agencies. Anderson-Letts showed complete disregard for the judicial system, but after years of hard work, I’m glad justice has been served. These innocent puppies have since been rehomed to loving families.”
