Teen Tragedy at Popular Wigan Beauty Spot
A 15-year-old boy has died after getting into trouble in the water at Scotman’s Flash, a well-known lake in Wigan, on Saturday afternoon (September 7).
Brave Attempts to Save Him
Emergency services were called at around 3 PM following reports of the boy struggling in the water. Members of the public rushed in to rescue the teenager but sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released.
No Suspicious Circumstances, Family Supported
Greater Manchester Police confirmed there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death. A spokesperson said:
“At around 3 PM on Saturday, officers responded to concerns for a 15-year-old male in the water at Scotman’s Flash, Wigan. He was recovered by members of the public but tragically passed away despite emergency teams’ best efforts.”
Specialist officers are supporting the boy’s family during this devastating time.
Community in Mourning
Scotman’s Flash management posted on social media expressing sorrow over the tragedy. They said:
“Our staff noticed the young man in the water and tried to save him but sadly were unable to. We thank them for their courage and determination. Our thoughts are with the young man’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.”
The local community has been left shaken, with many sending condolences to the family following this heartbreaking loss.
