Pit Bull Shot Dead by Armed Gardaí After Attack in Cork

A pit bull terrier was shot dead by armed Gardaí in Cork last night after it attacked a woman and became aggressive at the scene.

Dog Attack Sparks Emergency Response

The incident unfolded around 5pm on Connolly Road in Ballyphehane. Witnesses reported the dog bit a woman in her own backyard, causing serious injuries to her arm and leg. A family member who tried to step in was also bitten on the arm.

Gardaí Call in Armed Support Unit

Local Gardaí, a dog warden, and a vet rushed to the property after reports of the dog attack. Seeing the threat escalate, armed units were brought in to handle the fierce animal.

Tragic End After Vet and Owner Consulted

Following discussions with the dog’s owner and the attending vet, a decision was made to euthanise the dangerous dog. A Garda from the Armed Support Unit fired the fatal shot, neutralising the threat.

Victims Treated at Cork University Hospital

Both victims were taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment of soft tissue injuries. Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
