Labour Fundraiser Stormed by Just Stop Oil Protesters
A fundraising dinner hosted by Labour frontbencher Anneliese Dodds was briefly hijacked by climate activists demanding urgent action on the climate crisis.
Protesters Join Forces Outside Oxford Venue
At 6:30 pm, demonstrators from Just Stop Oil, Students vs Oil Oxford, Oxford Palestine Society, XR Youth Oxford, Oxford Climate Justice Campaign, and Actions Against War Crimes Oxford gathered outside the NEF Istanbul restaurant on Cowley Road. Their message was clear: the climate emergency can’t wait.
Activists Demand Tory Oil Licence Revokes
Ollie Sworder, 20, a student and Just Stop Oil rep, urged Dodds to scrap Tory oil licences immediately. He pointed to recent Oxford floods and worsening climate disasters as evidence Labour must prioritise urgent climate action.
Rosy Wilson, 19, from Oxford Against War Crimes, handed Dodds a letter demanding a halt to all new oil and gas licences and cancelling existing Tory grants.
Oxford PhD Student Issues Ultimatum
Irfan Mamun, 27, Molecular Biology PhD candidate at Oxford, warned the consequences of continued fossil fuel exploration are catastrophic. He challenged Dodds to act decisively within six months or step down.
“Issuing new oil licences during record-breaking heatwaves is an insult to the global climate fight. Anneliese must represent Oxford’s people, not the oil lobby,” Mamun stated.
Climate Campaigners Vow to Keep Fighting
The protest highlights the rising anger towards UK politicians who favour oil industry profits over community welfare. Just Stop Oil supporters promise to ramp up campaigns until real climate action happens.
