Driver Dozes Off on M25, Fined £700 and Causes Chaos
An HGV driver who nodded off at the wheel on the M25 has been slapped with a £700 fine for breaching driving hours rules. The lorry veered off the carriageway early yesterday morning around 6:30am, forcing the closure of the busy Essex stretch between Junctions 27 and 28 clockwise.
Miraculously, no one was injured, but officials have warned how close this incident came to disaster.
Costly Recovery and Repairs Ahead
The recovery bill for the heavy goods vehicle is expected to hit around £7,000. Once the lorry is cleared, National Highways teams will inspect and fix any damage to the nearside barrier.
How to Navigate the M25 Closure
Drivers caught out by the closure are urged to follow the Hollow Triangle diversion symbol. The recommended route is:
- Exit M25 Junction 27 and head onto the M11 towards London.
- At M11 Junction 4, switch to the A406(S) North Circular Road.
- Take the A12 at the Redbridge Interchange and then exit towards Chelmsford at the roundabout.
- Continue along the A12, and at ‘Gallows Corner’ roundabout take the 2nd exit to ‘Brook Street’ roundabout.
- Take the 3rd exit to rejoin the M25 at Junction 28 anticlockwise.
Motorists are advised to expect delays, seek alternative routes, or postpone their travel if possible.
