Neighbours Hear Shouts and Doors Kicked Amid Midnight Horror
Kent Police raced to River View at 1:25am after frantic residents reported threats and furious door kicking. Officers found the victim collapsed with serious head and neck wounds.
A quick-thinking neighbour was already administering first aid, which a police officer took over until paramedics arrived—saving the woman’s life.
Witnesses Overhear Killer’s Chilling Confession
Gawler had fled but was caught nearby. Witnesses heard him say: “I’ve killed her.”
Police recovered the blood-stained knife from the property where Gawler was nabbed. The victim, now discharged from hospital, continues to suffer long-term effects.
Police Urge Domestic Abuse Victims to Speak Out
Investigations revealed months of abuse and arguments, with Gawler calling the victim degrading names.
“Gawler carried out an extremely violent attack which very nearly took this victim’s life. I hope this sentence gives her and her family a sense that justice has been done,” said Detective Inspector Garry Cook.
“I want to praise the public, officers, and paramedics who gave life-saving aid. I urge anyone suffering domestic violence to contact police or someone they trust for support and action.”
