EOD blow up live ordnance in West Wight

The Needles coastguard and the EOD have been involved in a joint operation in making safe a 170 year old shell that dares back to the 1850’s   A member of the public alerted the coastguard who requested the assistance of the EOD at Totland Bay. Once onscene it was ascertained to be a piece of Ordnance that was live. It was destroyed in a controlled explosion whilst team members from coastguard established a 200m cordon. Due to the incoming tide a request was made for safety cover by Freshwater Independent Lifeboat. The area was made safe just after 9.30pm.
