The car is believed to have struck a slick patch on the wet carriageway, losing control and flipping over. It tumbled off the westbound slip road near Junction 12 and ended up 20 feet down an embankment, resting on its roof.

Recovery experts from Boarhunt had to bring in a former army crane to pull the badly damaged vehicle back onto the road. One lane of the off slip was closed temporarily to ensure the safety of recovery crews and motorists alike.

Officials expect the lane closure to be lifted by 1pm today, restoring normal traffic flow on the busy motorway slip road.
