Three Elderly Women Targeted in Eastleigh Purse Thefts
Police have launched an investigation after three elderly women were robbed in Eastleigh town centre. The victims, aged 95, 87, and 72, had their purses stolen during separate incidents between 11am and 12.30pm on Thursday, October 6.
Pickpockets Strike Busy Town Centre
The first theft happened at the Shaw Trust 1 shop on Market Street, where a 95-year-old woman’s purse was snatched from her bag between 11am and 11.50am. Police later found the empty purse nearby.
Shortly after, a 72-year-old woman realised her purse was missing somewhere in the town centre between 11am and 12pm. The third victim, an 87-year-old woman, had two purses stolen from her shopping basket inside Iceland supermarket between 12pm and 12.30pm.
£102 Stolen, Police Appeal for Information
The stolen purses contained a total of £102 in cash. PC Robert Thomas expressed concern over the distress caused to the elderly victims. He said: “These incidents have understandably caused great distress to those targeted.”
PC Thomas urged the public to recall any suspicious activity. “If you were in Eastleigh yesterday and visited any of these shops, please think back. Did you see anyone acting strangely or anyone you didn’t recognise?”
He also warned residents to stay alert when out and about: “Keep purses and wallets out of sight and close to your person at all times.”
