Dramatic Rescue as Solent Wheel Stalls with Riders Trapped!

Emergency crews rushed to the Solent Wheel at Clarence Pier this morning after a 60-year-old woman and a 6-year-old boy were left stranded when the ride suddenly malfunctioned.

Trapped Riders Rescued by Firefighters

The pair were safely brought down using an aerial ladder platform shortly after 11.30am. The rescue effort included a RSV Rescue Support Unit and an aerial ladder from St Mary’s, backed up by additional fire appliances from Cosham and Southsea.

Area Sealed Off as Crowds Watch Rescue Drama

The scene was cordoned off while emergency workers sprang into action, drawing a large crowd of onlookers. Crew Manager Richard Furse said, “Luckily, the cart was positioned in a spot that allowed us to get the aerial ladder platform up quite easily.”

He added, “We initially sent lots of resources because it was a height rescue. Once we assessed the situation, we sent many back.”

No Injuries Reported

Thankfully, nobody was injured during the incident, and the ride has been shut down pending a full investigation.
