A teenage boy from Bognor Regis has pleaded guilty to manslaughter following the brutal early-hours assault that claimed the life of 51-year-old Paul Lawrence in Littlehampton.

Deadly Attack Rocks Littlehampton Community

The fatal incident unfolded on Gladonian Road just after midnight on 28 January. Despite emergency services rushing to the scene, Mr Lawrence died from severe injuries sustained during the violent attack. A post-mortem confirmed the cause of death.

Two Teens Caught in Police Dragnet

  • The 17-year-old admitted causing Mr Lawrence’s death during a hearing at Portsmouth Crown Court on 6 October.
  • Another 17-year-old from Littlehampton faces charges related to the same incident, including sending menacing messages and cannabis possession.
  • Both suspects remain unnamed due to their age.

Investigation and Impact

Detective Chief Inspector Alex Campbell praised Mr Lawrence’s family for their courage.

“Paul’s death has had a devastating impact on his loved ones and the community,” he said. “While nothing can undo what happened, I hope this conviction provides some comfort and a sense of closure for his family.”

The case shines a harsh spotlight on youth violence in Sussex. Police are ramping up efforts with schools, families, and community groups to tackle the problem before more lives are lost.

Sentencing Set for December

The convicted teen has been released on bail but will return to Portsmouth Crown Court on 12 December for sentencing. Community leaders and law enforcement vow to keep fighting youth crime in the city.
