Vauxhall Bridge Crash: Woman Taken to Major Trauma Centre After Being Hit by Bus

A woman has been taken to a major trauma centre after being hit by a bus on Vauxhall Bridge Road in south London this morning, prompting a large emergency services response and causing widespread traffic disruption.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:20am on Saturday (March 22), when emergency services were called to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a bus on the busy thoroughfare near Vauxhall Bridge.

Air Ambulance Dispatched to Scene

Crews from the London Ambulance Service, including an advanced paramedic, ambulance crews, and a clinician in a response car, were dispatched alongside London’s Air Ambulance. A section of the bridge was cordoned off by police, and the road was closed in both directions while medics treated the injured woman.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said:

“We were called today (Saturday, March 22) at 9.20am to reports of a road traffic collision on Vauxhall Bridge Road.
We treated a woman at the scene before taking her to a London major trauma centre.”

Injuries Not Life-Threatening

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed that the crash involved a pedestrian and a bus, and that the woman’s injuries have been assessed as non-life-threatening and non-life-changing.

“The bridge was closed for recovery and is now reopen,” the police spokesperson added. Investigations into the circumstances of the collision are ongoing.

Traffic Delays and Bus Disruption

Transport for London (TfL) reported serious delays in the area following the incident. Several bus routes, including the 2, 36, 878 and 88, were either diverted or curtailed as emergency crews worked at the scene.

The bridge has since been reopened, and traffic is gradually returning to normal.
