Fire at Supported Living Block in Brighton’s Sillwood Street Extinguished

Emergency crews were called to a fire early this morning at Fred Emery Court, a supported accommodation block in Sillwood Street, Brighton. East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) responded quickly, with four fire engines from Brighton, Hove, and Bexhill dispatched to tackle the blaze.

The fire, which broke out in the supported living block run by YMCA Brighton, prompted the evacuation of all 31 residents. One person was initially reported as treated for smoke inhalation; however, ESFRS later confirmed that no one required medical treatment.

ESFRS posted on social media at around 3:20 a.m., informing the public of the incident. The fire was successfully extinguished shortly before 4 a.m., and crews have since left the scene.

Fred Emery Court provides supported studio flats for residents, and the quick response ensures the safety of everyone in the building. South East Coast Ambulance Service was also on-site as a precaution.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and investigations are expected to continue.
