A 57-year-old man has died in a fatal crash in London after being struck at a bus stop in Southwark, London, by a vehicle involved in a police pursuit during the early hours of Sunday morning, May 25. The tragic fatal crash in London has left the community in shock.

Pursuit Ends in Tragedy

Metropolitan Police officers in an unmarked vehicle began pursuing a car reportedly speeding along Southwark Bridge Road at around 5:40am. As the officers attempted to stop the car, it crashed into a bus stop at the junction of Great Suffolk Street and Southwark Bridge Road, resulting in the fatal crash in London.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, where the 57-year-old man was found with critical injuries. Despite the efforts of paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene after the fatal crash in London.

24-Year-Old Woman Arrested

A 24-year-old woman, believed to have been a passenger in the vehicle, was arrested at the scene and taken to hospital. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing. She remains under police custody while investigations continue.

The driver of the vehicle has not been formally identified in public updates. Authorities have not confirmed if any additional arrests have been made.

Investigations and Oversight

As standard protocol in incidents involving serious injury or death following police contact, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has been informed. The Met Police’s Directorate of Professional Standards is also overseeing internal proceedings.

A Met Police spokesperson said:

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who has died, and with the officers and emergency services who responded to this tragic incident.”

Appeal for Witnesses

Police are appealing for dashcam, mobile, or CCTV footage from the area at the time of the crash.
Anyone with relevant information is urged to call 101 quoting CAD 1535/25MAY, or contact the Metropolitan Police online concerning the fatal crash in London.

Road Closures and Community Impact

Southwark Bridge Road was closed for several hours while forensic investigators examined the scene of the fatal crash in London. All road closures have since been lifted, and local bus services have resumed normal operation.
