In an unexpected turn of events in Coddington, near Newark, a bold attempt to steal a phone resulted in the discovery of a brand-new iPhone concealed within a suspect’s lunch. The incident unfolded around 02:35 GMT on Friday, December 29th, at a warehouse, leading to the prompt arrest of two individuals.
Warehouse staff alerted the authorities when two individuals triggered a metal detector while attempting to exit the premises. However, it was the lunchbox one of the suspects was carrying that raised suspicion, causing the metal detector to activate.
Upon searching, the security guard uncovered the hidden iPhone carefully concealed within the packed lunch. At this point, one of the suspects made an escape attempt but was swiftly apprehended by the vigilant security guard, who promptly called the police to the scene.
The arrested individuals, a 37-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man, now face charges of theft. Inspector David Platt of Nottinghamshire Police commended the security guard for his quick thinking and emphasized the significant impact that shoplifting can have on businesses and the local community.
Inspector Platt stated, “Shoplifting offences can have a significant impact on businesses and the local community too, which is precisely why Nottinghamshire Police take all reports of this nature extremely seriously.
