Swanage Care Home Manslaughter Suspect Released Without Charge as Investigation Continues

A 60-year-old woman who was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter following the deaths of three elderly residents at Gainsborough Care Home in Swanage has been released without charge, Dorset Police confirmed. The tragic incident last month led to the deaths of two men, aged 74 and 91, and an 86-year-old woman. Police are continuing to treat the deaths as unexplained as their investigation proceeds.

Following the incident, the care home was evacuated, and seven additional residents were taken to the hospital as a precaution. Initial reports indicated that carbon monoxide poisoning was the primary line of inquiry.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Third of the Major Crime Investigation Team said, “The deceased and their loved ones remain at the forefront of our minds throughout our investigation.” He explained that the recent arrest was made to investigate any potential actions or omissions by the individual that could have been grossly negligent. However, police have now determined that there is no evidence to suggest such negligence.

DCI Third emphasised that the investigation is ongoing, with detailed forensic analysis still in progress, a process that could take several months. “We are awaiting results from forensic submissions and analysis to assist us in establishing the causes of the deaths,” he added.

The families of the deceased residents are being kept informed of the investigation’s progress, as authorities work to uncover the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
