Long-Overdue Justice for Victims

A england/wales/trowbridge/”>trowbridge-wales/”>trowbridge/”>Trowbridge man has been sentenced to 16 and a half years in prison for raping two former partners, crimes committed a decade apart.

Marcin Janikowski, 39, from Cusance Way, Hilperton, was convicted at Portsmouth Crown Court on September 19. He received 13 years and six months behind bars, followed by three years on licence, along with a restraining order.

Shocking Crimes Spanning Ten Years

  • Janikowski pleaded guilty to raping a woman in 2024 but later tried to retract his plea.
  • He denied raping another woman in 2014, but was found guilty after a trial in July 2025.

One victim bravely told the court,

“I thought he was that missing piece that made my life complete. He stole my hopes, my dreams, my future and every day was filled with fear, sadness and made no sense… No amount of justice will ever undo the damage that he has caused to me, my family and so many others.”

Police Praise Victims’ Courage

Detective Constable James Gatherum from CID hailed the victims for their strength:

“First and foremost, I want to express my sincere gratitude to both victims. Without their determination to stand up to Janikowski, today’s outcome wouldn’t be possible.”

The officer explained:

  • Janikowski violently raped the first victim in 2014, but initially there was not enough evidence to prosecute.
  • In January 2024, a second victim came forward, prompting a fresh investigation and his arrest.
  • The original 2014 case was reviewed and charges authorized based on new evidence.

“Today marks the end of a long and painful journey for both victims—each had their trust abused by Janikowski, a decade apart. The sentence reflects the severity of his crimes and the danger he poses.”

DC Gatherum also highlighted the challenges victims face, from financial stress to language barriers, urging anyone suffering abuse to seek help.
