An elderly man was left fighting for his life after a savage, unprovoked assault at a UK railway station by 28-year-old Zepheniah Dufeal, who has now been convicted of grievous bodily harm following a high-profile investigation by British Transport Police.
Brutal Attack Caught on CCTV
The attack took place inside a railway station, where Dufeal launched an “exceptionally violent and unnecessary” assault on the elderly victim. Without warning, he struck the man, who fell to the floor suffering life-threatening injuries.
Dufeal then walked away, leaving the victim alone on the ground.
Another passenger discovered the injured man shortly afterward and alerted station staff, who called emergency services.
Severe Injuries and Immediate Medical Response
The victim sustained:
-
A bleed on the brain
-
A collapsed lung
He was immediately transported to hospital, where he received intensive care. Fortunately, he survived, though the road to recovery remains long.
Swift Arrest and Recognition
CCTV footage captured the entire incident. After images from the attack were circulated in an officer identification briefing, Dufeal was recognised by a British Transport Police officer.
He was arrested the following day at his home on the same street as the station.
Police Condemn Violence on Rail Network
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Attwell of Major, Serious and Organised Crime stated:
“This was an exceptionally violent and unnecessary attack on an elderly man. Dufeal acted in such a horrific manner and with such brutality, it is only luck that the victim was able to survive. I hope this conviction brings some comfort to the victim and his family.”
He added:
“Violence of any kind is never tolerated on the rail network. We work hard to ensure offenders like this are brought to justice. If you ever need us, please text 61016 to report crime or call 999 in an emergency.”
Ongoing Safety Efforts on UK Railways
The conviction of Zepheniah Dufeal highlights continued efforts by the British Transport Police to tackle serious violence and safeguard vulnerable passengers. Public cooperation and CCTV evidence were instrumental in securing justice in this case.
