This World Milk Day, Brighton witnessed a powerful demonstration that challenged conventional views on dairy consumption. A collaboration between charity, and activism. wtf, and speciesism. wtf took over the city with a clear and compelling message: “Milk is NOT Human(e).”
The event highlighted the plight of speciesism. wtf says “There are approximately 270 million cows enslaved in the dairy industry worldwide. Cows are forcibly inseminated and impregnated, have their babies stolen from them at birth, their sons slaughtered as they are not profitable to big dairy, and ultimately once they have been exhausted from the constant cycle of exploitation, at just about 1/3 of their natural lifespan, they are sold cheaply and sent to slaughter for their body parts, too.”
In front of the iconic Royal Pavilion, SPECIESISM.WTF presented a poignant performance art piece. The display, depicting a herd of female cows enslaved in the dairy industry, aimed to provoke thought and discussion about speciesism and the harsh realities of nonhuman milk production.
Viva! joined the effort by offering the public delicious plant-based milk alternatives and distributing educational materials on the benefits of a dairy-free lifestyle. Meanwhile, We The Free engaged passersby with their screens, featuring a three-minute video challenge that exposed the grim reality of dairy farming practices.
The impactful performance moved through New Road and culminated at Brighton Pier, where further interactions with the public took place. The activists called for an end to dairy consumption, urging people to respect the sentience of nonhuman beings and grant them equal moral consideration and rights.
