A harrowing new twist emerged at Winchester Crown Court on Thursday as it was revealed that three days of diary entries were ripped out from the journal of Tarryn Baird, who tragically took her own life after years of abuse.
Abuse Allegations Against Husband Unfold
Tarryn, 34, hanged herself at their Swindon home in November 2017. Her husband, Christopher Trybus, 43, now faces serious charges including manslaughter, controlling and coercive behaviour, and two counts of rape. Prosecutors say Trybus’s constant manipulation and sexual violence drove Tarryn to despair. Trybus denies all charges.
Key Evidence: Missing Diary Pages
Police recovered Tarryn’s green ‘Conception’ diary in January 2023. Prosecutor Rebecca Fairbairn revealed the chilling detail that the pages documenting the three days just before Tarryn’s death were missing – physically torn out. She told the jury, “Had she continued writing, those entries would have been there.”
Witness Paints Picture of Troubled Home Life
- Alice Wagacebu, the couple’s cleaner between 2016 and 2017, described Tarryn as warm and hopeful, often speaking about wanting children.
- Ms Wagacebu said Trybus was mostly “often away,” and when home, kept to himself, greeting her briefly before retreating to his office.
- She noticed a bruise on Tarryn’s face once. When asked, Tarryn just smiled and denied it was from the gym, not explain.
Friend Tried to Help, but Abuse Remained Hidden
Childhood friend Carina Silva testified that she repeatedly invited Tarryn to stay at her home after she disclosed beatings and rape by Trybus. But Tarryn declined every offer, fearing the fallout. Ms Silva described Trybus as “strange and bizarre” and recalled hearing he had strangled Tarryn with a belt during a sexual assault.
“On the outside he seemed nice to her, but what she was telling me was completely different,” Ms Silva said.
Under cross-examination, Ms Silva admitted she initially told police she’d seen Trybus as devoted in public—but privately, Tarryn’s truth was much darker.
She also confessed to holding back some details in early police statements, unsure of what was fact or fear. “Tarryn would tell me things, I would see the bruises, and then she would retract,” she said.
The grisly trial is ongoing as the court pieces together the devastating story behind Tarryn Baird’s death.
