Tragedy as Fire Rips Through Flat in Early Hours
A woman has tragically died after a fire tore through a retirement flat in Bromley in the early hours of Friday morning.
Emergency services were called to a three-storey block on Reigate Road at 4.22am following reports of a serious fire. The blaze completely destroyed a first-floor flat.
40 Firefighters Tackled the Blaze
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) dispatched six fire engines and around 40 firefighters from Lee Green, Bromley, Lewisham, and Forest Hill stations.
Crews brought the fire under control by 5.54am, but sadly, the woman inside could not be saved.
“Despite the best efforts of emergency services, a woman was pronounced dead at the scene,” an LFB spokesperson confirmed.
Cause of Fire Under Investigation
Fire investigators are now working to establish the cause of the blaze. No further injuries have been reported.
The building, understood to be a retirement residence, has since been evacuated and secured.
