A woman has tragically died after a fire broke out at a home in South Norwood on Monday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to Selhurst Road shortly before 3.30pm (15:27), where flames had erupted inside a ground-floor maisonette of a semi-detached house.
Three fire engines and around 15 firefighters from Woodside, Croydon and Norbury fire stations responded to the scene.
According to London Fire Brigade, a small part of the front room was damaged by the fire.
The London Ambulance Service treated a woman at the scene before she was taken to hospital, where she sadly passed away from her injuries.
The fire was brought under control by 5.01pm (17:01), with the cause of the blaze still under investigation.
A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade said:
“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who tragically lost her life. The incident serves as a poignant reminder of how devastating fire can be, even in relatively small outbreaks.”
The Metropolitan Police and fire investigators are working together to determine the circumstances surrounding the blaze.
