A 54-year-old woman has been arrested today on suspicion of money laundering as part of a pre-planned operation linked to the ongoing investigation into Legacy funeral directors. Detectives are currently questioning her while she remains in police custody.
In a related development, a 46-year-old man—who had previously been on bail following his arrest in March—was apprehended today. His initial arrest was on suspicion of prevention of a lawful burial, fraud by false representation, and fraud by abuse of position in connection to the same investigation. Today’s arrest is on suspicion of theft, making or supplying articles for use in frauds, and offences under the Financial Services Act. He is also in police custody.
Additionally, a 23-year-old woman, who was previously arrested in March on similar charges, remains on police bail.
Assistant Chief Constable Thom McLoughlin emphasised the complexity and sensitivity of the investigation. He stated, “We continue to follow all lines of inquiry and seek answers for the families involved and those affected by this report. With three individuals now arrested, we remain committed to supporting the impacted families and working closely with our partners.”
McLoughlin urged anyone with concerns or who feels impacted by the ongoing investigation to contact the Victim Support 24-hour independent helpline at 0808 281 1136.
