A 72-year-old woman has died after being struck by an e-bike in Bradford, prompting police to launch an urgent appeal for information.
Shaat Bibi, of Bradford, was crossing Leeds Old Road shortly before 5pm on Wednesday, 14 May, when she was hit by an electric motorcycle. She was rushed to hospital with serious injuries but sadly died two days later on Friday, 16 May.
Teenage Rider Arrested and Bailed
The rider of the e-bike, a 17-year-old boy, was arrested at the scene and taken to hospital for medical assessment. He was later arrested on suspicion of:
- Causing serious injury by dangerous driving
- Driving while unfit through drink or drugs
- Theft of a motor vehicle
- Assault
West Yorkshire Police have confirmed that he has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.
Major Collision and Enquiry Team Leading Investigation
The Major Collision and Enquiry Team (MCET) is now appealing for witnesses or dashcam footage from the scene of the crash. The incident happened near the junction of Leeds Old Road and Barkerend Road, a busy area frequently used by pedestrians and commuters.
A police spokesperson said:
“We are urging anyone who witnessed the collision or has video footage of the incident to come forward as soon as possible. Your information could be crucial to our investigation.”

Local residents have expressed sorrow at the news. “It’s absolutely heartbreaking,” said one neighbour. “She was a kind lady who always stopped to chat.”
