Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision on the M23 in Merstham this morning (Sunday, 17 August).
Officers were called shortly before 6.30am to reports of a collision in a layby involving the driver of a VW – who was outside his vehicle at the time – and the driver of an Audi.
Man in His 50s Pronounced Dead
Despite the efforts of emergency services, a man in his 50s was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
Arrest Made
A man in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in police custody.
The M23 northbound carriageway was closed for several hours between Junctions 8 and 7, with additional closures on the A23 northbound between Glebe Road and Dean Lane, causing widespread disruption throughout the morning.
Appeal for Information
Detectives are now seeking information about the movements of a purple Audi Q4 immediately prior to the collision.
