Kent Fire and Rescue Service has issued a public safety alert after a wildfire broke out near Ruins Barn Road in Tunstall, Sittingbourne.
As of 4:44pm, seven fire engines and two off-road all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) have been deployed to the scene, with crews battling to contain the blaze. A drone unit has also been launched to assist with aerial monitoring and coordination.
Public Urged to Stay Indoors
Residents and those travelling in the Swale area are being urged to close all windows and doors due to heavy smoke drifting from the fire. The smoke may pose health risks, especially for vulnerable individuals, children, and the elderly.
Kent Fire and Rescue said:
“Please share this advice with anyone in the area who may not have access to the internet. Crews are working hard to extinguish the fire and prevent further spread.”
Ongoing Incident
The cause of the wildfire is currently unknown, and there are no reported injuries at this stage. Emergency services remain on scene and are expected to continue firefighting operations into the evening.
