Kingston Hospital found itself in a state of lockdown as a violent incident involving a prisoner unfolded, prompting a significant police presence at the National Health Service (NHS) facility on Galsworthy Road in Kingston
A substantial number of officers, including three Territorial Support Group (TSG) vans from the Metropolitan Police Commissioner’s reserves, were swiftly deployed to the scene in response to the escalating situation.
The incident centered around a prisoner, who had reportedly been in custody throughout the weekend and later became involved in a confrontation within the hospital’s Accident and Emergency (A&E) department.
In light of the unfolding events, hospital staff took immediate measures to ensure the safety of patients and visitors. Patients were advised to remain in secure areas while police officers worked tirelessly to restore order within the hospital premises.
The individual involved in the incident was subsequently apprehended and swiftly placed into the back of a police van. The van, escorted by two TSG vehicles with flashing blue lights, then departed the hospital, heading towards a nearby custody center.
The scene at Kingston Hospital drew approximately 30 officers, who were supported by response units from the nearby Kingston Police Station. Their collective efforts were aimed at de-escalating the situation and ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals present at the hospital.
While the immediate threat appears to have been resolved, an ongoing investigation into the incident is likely. Authorities will continue to work diligently to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the prisoner’s actions and the events that transpired at Kingston Hospital.
As the situation develops, we will provide updates and additional information as it becomes available. Our thoughts are with the hospital staff, patients, and visitors who were affected by this incident, and we commend the swift response of the Police in managing the situation.
