Ticket resale platform Viagogo has defended its practice of listing Oasis concert tickets at inflated prices, calling it “legal” despite warnings from the band. Oasis has stated that tickets purchased outside official channels like Ticketmaster and Twickets will be cancelled.
Cris Miller, Viagogo’s global managing director, recently addressed the growing concerns surrounding the resale of tickets for the highly anticipated Oasis reunion. Describing the event as a “dream event anticipated by millions worldwide,” Miller acknowledged the initial surge in ticket prices on secondary markets like Viagogo.
He advised fans to exercise patience, noting that early demand often causes temporary price spikes. Miller also highlighted that Viagogo has previously offered reasonably priced resale tickets for other major events, such as Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour.
In response to criticism, Miller emphasized the challenges faced by primary ticketing sites in managing overwhelming demand. He reassured fans of Viagogo’s commitment to consumer protection, stating, “Fans are always protected by our guarantee that they will receive their tickets in time for the event or their money back.
This situation underscores the ongoing tensions between artists, official ticketing platforms, and secondary market resellers in the live entertainment industry, raising questions about fair pricing and accessibility for fans.
