Maya’s Community Support Centre has issued an urgent public appeal after a devastating fire in Dover left over 40 people homeless, including dozens of children and vulnerable residents.
The blaze, which tore through a block of flats over the Easter weekend, has displaced 42 families, many of whom lost all their possessions. The centre, known for its grassroots support work across Kent, is now rallying local communities to donate essential items to help those affected rebuild their lives.
Items Needed
Maya’s Centre is asking for donations of the following items:
-
New underwear and socks (all sizes)
-
Children’s and adult clothing and shoes
-
School uniforms (any size)
-
Toiletries: toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorants, bath towels
-
Household items: bedding, blankets, rucksacks, handbags, phone chargers
-
Stationery: notebooks, pens, colouring books and pencils
-
Treats for children: Easter eggs, sweets, brand-new toys
In a heartfelt message on social media, the centre wrote:
“We are here for you, Dover. Let’s come together and show love. These families have lost everything. Even a small donation could mean the world right now.”
The donation point is located at Unit 3, Herne Bay West Industrial Park, Sea Street, Herne Bay CT6 8JZ, and will be open Monday from 9am to 3pm.
A second urgent needs list is expected to be released Tuesday afternoon, as teams continue to assess the damage and requirements of those affected.
