Updated Appeal Following Serious Assault on Footpath Near Tunbridge Wells
Detectives have renewed their appeal for information after a brutal assault near Tunbridge Wells left a man with severe head injuries. The victim, who was found in a distressed and confused state on a Rusthall footpath last month, remains in hospital as police continue their investigation.
Victim Found with Severe Head Injuries
The attack occurred on the evening of Thursday, January 23, 2025, in woodland leading from Rusthall Road, near the cricket pitch. The victim, a man in his 20s, had set off for a walk from Sunnyside Road and was assaulted between 7:30 PM and 7:40 PM.
He suffered multiple deep cuts to his head and a bleed to the brain, leaving him unable to recall the attack. A member of the public discovered him injured and disoriented along the footpath and immediately called emergency services.
Police Urge Public to Come Forward
Detective Inspector Adrian Safiani confirmed that the victim is now showing slow signs of recovery but is still unable to provide an account of the assault.
“This was a violent and unprovoked attack on a man who was simply out for a walk along a route he had taken many times before,” DI Safiani said.
“Due to the severity of the injuries, there is every chance that whoever carried out this assault returned home with blood on their hands, clothing, or shoes. If you suspect someone, please do the right thing and contact us.”
CCTV Appeal and Witnesses Needed
Police have carried out extensive checks on CCTV from nearby homes and businesses, but they are still urging local residents to review footage from doorbell cameras and private security systems, particularly from the 7:30 PM to 8:00 PM timeframe.
Detectives are asking anyone who may have seen suspicious activity or anyone walking in the area around the time of the attack to come forward.
