The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for dense fog across parts of southern England this morning, warning of travel disruption and reduced visibility on the roads and in the skies.
The warning, in effect from 3am to 9am, applies to areas including London and the South East, as well as parts of the South West, with affected regions including Kent, Surrey, Hampshire, Sussex, Dorset, Somerset, and Wiltshire.
What to Expect
- Visibility may fall below 100 metres in some areas
- Slower journey times with delays to bus and train services possible
- Flight cancellations or delays are also a possibility
- Difficult driving conditions in affected zones
Although not all areas will experience fog, where it does form, conditions could be severely reduced, particularly on rural roads and motorways.
Travel Advice
The Met Office is urging drivers to check travel conditions before setting off and allow extra time for their journeys. If driving in fog, make sure to:
- Use fog lights when visibility drops below 100 metres
- Drive slowly and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles
- Monitor live travel updates for road, rail, and air disruptions
Passengers are also advised to check with transport providers for the latest updates on bus, train, ferry, and airline services.
Yellow Warning Classification
The fog warning has been classified as “medium likelihood” and “low impact”, meaning there is a reasonable chance of disruption, but the overall risk remains limited.
Regional Areas Affected
- London & South East England: Brighton and Hove, East Sussex, Kent, Surrey, West Sussex, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Portsmouth, Southampton
- South West England: Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, Devon, Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire
The fog is expected to gradually lift by mid-morning, with clear conditions returning across most areas by noon. No further warnings have been issued for the following six days.
