Two police officers were injured during a violent disturbance at a residential property on James Street in Sheerness, prompting a major emergency response on Wednesday afternoon.
At approximately 1:00pm, Kent Police were called to reports of a domestic disturbance involving threats being made inside a home. Upon arrival, officers were confronted by an aggressive male and a struggle ensued, resulting in injuries to two officers being stabbed.
A cordon was swiftly put in place around the property while armed response officers and emergency teams dealt with the situation.
A man was arrested at the scene and is currently in custody while enquiries continue.
The injured officers were transported to a local hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, and both are expected to make a full recovery.
A spokesperson for Kent Police said:
“We were called to a disturbance at a residential property on James Street, Sheerness at around 1pm on Wednesday, 9 July. Two officers sustained injuries while responding to the incident. A man has been arrested and remains in custody. The officers were taken to hospital, and their injuries are not thought to be serious.”
Area Sealed Off
Local residents reported seeing multiple police units and emergency vehicles on James Street throughout the afternoon, with a heavy police presence continuing into the evening.
One resident said:
“There were flashing lights everywhere, and we saw officers running into the house. It looked serious, and they closed off the street not long after.”
Investigation Ongoing
Kent Police have launched an investigation into the full circumstances of the incident and are expected to provide an update later today.
