Two men have been charged with conspiracy to commit murder following a stabbing incident in New Cross that left a woman in her 30s injured. The attack occurred on Parkfield Road near Lewisham Way just before 9 AM on May 24.
Emergency services, including police and London Ambulance Service crews, responded promptly to the scene. The injured woman received immediate medical attention before being transported to a hospital, where her condition was later confirmed as non-life threatening.
The two suspects, Jorge Enrique Borges, 64, of Buttermere Close, Southwark, and Mateo Valencia Cano, 24, of Whitehorse Lane, South Norwood, were detained on June 28. They were formally charged the following day.
On July 1, Borges and Cano appeared at Bromley Magistrates’ Court, facing charges of conspiracy to murder. Cano is also charged with attempted murder, robbery, and possession of an offensive weapon.
Both suspects are scheduled to appear at Crown Court on July 29, though the specific venue for the hearing has yet to be confirmed.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police provided further details: “Two men have appeared in court after a woman was seriously injured following a stabbing in Lewisham. On Friday, 24 May, police were called to Lewisham Way at around 09:00hrs to reports of a stabbing. Officers attended the scene alongside colleagues from the London Ambulance Service, who treated a woman in her 30s for stab injuries. Fortunately, her condition is not considered life-threatening.”
The spokesperson continued, “Jorge Enrique Borges, 64, of Buttermere Close, Southwark, and Mateo Valencia Cano, 24, of Whitehorse Lane, South Norwood, appeared in custody at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 1 July, charged with conspiracy to murder. Cano was also charged with attempted murder, robbery, and possession of an offensive weapon. Both were remanded to appear at Crown Court on Monday, 29 July – confirmation of the venue awaits. Borges and Cano were arrested on 28 June and charged the following day.”
