Two Men Arrested After Shooting Incident in Wallasey

Two men have been arrested following a shooting incident that left a man injured in Wallasey last night. The incident occurred on Saturday, June 29, on Lucerne Road.

Officers responded to reports of a man shot in the leg just before 11,29pm Crime Scene Investigators are currently conducting forensic examinations at the scene, and house-to-house inquiries are underway in the local area. Detectives are also reviewing CCTV footage to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Detective Chief Inspector Mike Dalton stated, “Our inquiries are in the very early stages, and we are diligently working to determine the motive behind the shooting. According to our preliminary findings, two men from the Sheffield area met with a group of three or four men on Lucerne Road. Shortly after their encounter, a firearm was discharged, resulting in a 33-year-old man from Sheffield being shot.”

The victim managed to make his way to Wheatland Lane, where two passersby in a car stopped to assist and called emergency services. The injured man was taken to the hospital, where he is being treated for a non-life-threatening leg injury.

At approximately 11:30 p.m., a stolen Nissan Navara was discovered burnt out on Clayton Road near Poulton Victoria Football Club, less than a mile away from the shooting location. Authorities are appealing to anyone who witnessed the car being abandoned and set on fire or saw it in the area to come forward with information. Dash cam footage from drivers in the vicinity at the time is also crucial to the investigation.

Detective Chief Inspector Dalton emphasised that the motive for the attack and the victim’s identity remain unknown at this stage. “Merseyside Police will not tolerate firearms on our streets,” he said. “We are relentless in our pursuit of those involved in gun crime to ensure they can be brought to justice.”

Local Policing Chief Inspector Chris Ruane assured the community that patrols in the area have been increased. “Our officers are actively engaging with residents to address concerns and provide support,” he stated. “We are committed to disrupting criminal activity linked to serious and organised crime through targeted policing operations.”

The two suspects, both from Sheffield, are in custody. The 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply, while the 35-year-old man was apprehended near the Wallasey tunnel on suspicion of possession of Class A drugs and possession of an imitation firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence.

Anyone with information related to this incident is urged to contact Merseyside Police via direct message on X (@MerPolCC), by calling 101 (quoting reference 1088 of June 29), or anonymously through Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111 or via their Twitter account (@CrimestoppersUK).
