Tragedy struck on Friday when a shooting occurred at the Mad Butcher grocery store in Fordyce, Arkansas. According to Arkansas State Police, two people lost their lives, and eight others were wounded during the incident.
The shooter, who remains unidentified, was critically injured after being shot by police. A law enforcement officer was also among those injured, although their injuries are not life-threatening.
Details surrounding the location of the shooting remain unclear.
Authorities have not confirmed whether the incident occurred inside or outside the store. Fordyce, a small city with approximately 3,200 residents, lies 65 miles (104 kilometres) south of Little Rock.
Social media videos captured the chaotic scene, showing at least one person lying in the grocery store’s parking lot.
The sound of multiple gunshots echoed through the area. Television reporters on the scene documented the swift response from local and state agencies, including the arrival of a medical helicopter.
Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders expressed her concern, stating that she had been briefed on the shooting.
