In a tragic unfolding at the Liver Industrial Estate in Aintree, Merseyside Police have confirmed that a second man was injured during the incident that took the life of 19-year-old Ellis Cox on June 23. The second victim, also 19, was shot in the foot and later self-presented at a hospital; he has since been discharged.
Two men have been arrested in connection with the shooting. A 34-year-old from Liverpool is facing charges of murder and possession of a firearm without a certificate, while a 61-year-old from Huyton has been arrested on suspicions of murder, attempted murder, possession of a controlled substance (Class B – cannabis), and firearm possession without a certificate.
This incident came to light after Ellis Cox, described by his family as “the best son, brother, cousin, nephew, uncle, grandson and friend you could ever hope for,” borrowed a bicycle and headed to meet friends at Aintree Station. The group reportedly spent the day in Southport, and the tragedy unfolded as they returned through the industrial estate.
Earlier in July, an 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of murder but have since been released on conditional bail pending further inquiries.
As the investigation continues, Detective Chief Inspector Steve McGrath expresses gratitude to the community for their cooperation and urges anyone with additional information to come forward. “We’re continuing to appeal for any information from anyone who is yet to come forward, the smallest detail of which could be vital to our inquiries,” he stated, calling on friends present during the incident to find the courage to assist the police further.
