Detectives have arrested two individuals in connection with the tragic murder of 17-year-old Muhammad Hassam Ali in Birmingham city centre on Saturday, January 20. The teenager was found seriously injured just before 15:30 GMT and was rushed to the hospital, but sadly succumbed to his injuries.
This morning, January 23, two boys, both aged 15, were arrested on suspicion of murder and are set to be questioned by detectives as the investigation continues.
Detective Inspector Michelle Thurgood, from the Homicide unit, expressed condolences to Muhammad’s friends and family and assured ongoing support during this devastating time. She commented on the significance of the arrests, stating, “The arrests are a significant update in this investigation, and we hope this provides some reassurance to people in Birmingham.”
The investigation remains active, and Detective Inspector Thurgood urged anyone who was in the area around 3.30pm on Saturday to come forward with information. A visible police presence will be maintained in the city centre to reassure the public, and officers will be patrolling the area, encouraging individuals with concerns to engage with them.
