An investigation is underway following the tragic death of a 17-year-old boy off West Wittering beach. Emergency services responded to concerns for the boy’s welfare in the sea around 1pm on Tuesday.
The teenager was airlifted to the hospital, where he was sadly confirmed deceased. His next of kin have been notified. The victim was part of a school trip group from Uxbridge College in London.
Detective Inspector Darren Taylor expressed his condolences, stating, "This was an absolutely tragic incident, and I would like to extend my sincere sympathies to the boy’s loved ones during this heartbreaking time."
Authorities are collaborating with the Health and Safety Executive to establish the full facts surrounding the incident. Anyone with information is urged to contact the police online or via 101, quoting Operation Redhill.
