The identity of the young man who tragically lost his life in a collision in Newcastle Upon Tyne over the weekend has been confirmed. Joe Scott, a 19-year-old resident of Blakelaw in Newcastle, was fatally struck by a vehicle on West Denton Way.
The incident occurred shortly after 16.00 BST on Sunday when the police received a report of a one-vehicle collision. It was reported that a grey BMW car collided with a bus stop where several people were waiting. Emergency services swiftly arrived at the scene, and despite the best efforts of paramedics, Joe Scott was pronounced deceased.
The grieving family of Joe Scott is currently being supported by specialist Family Liaison Officers during this incredibly challenging time.
In addition to Joe Scott’s tragic death, two women who were also at the bus stop were injured in the collision. One of the women sustained serious injuries and remains in the hospital, while the other suffered non-serious injuries and has since been discharged.
Following the incident, a thorough investigation was launched, and three men were initially arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Out of the three, one 21-year-old man has been released under investigation. Two other men, aged 24 and 21, have been released and will face no further action.
Authorities continue to appeal for witnesses to come forward, particularly those who were in the area and may have dash-cam footage capturing the moments leading up to the collision.
