A sombre atmosphere enveloped the Dartford Crossing bridge this morning (May 7) as emergency services responded to concerns for the welfare of a man, tragically ending with his death.
Essex Police were summoned to the QEII bridge around 9 am after receiving reports about the welfare of an individual. Despite the best efforts of responders, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The closure of the bridge ensued, causing disruptions to traffic flow, before authorities could fully reopen it around 11 am. However, delays persisted until approximately midday, impacting commuters and travellers.
Police have confirmed that the man’s family has been notified of the heartbreaking incident.
A spokesperson for Essex Police shared, “Officers were called to the QEII bridge at around 9 am this morning (7 May) following a concern for welfare report. Emergency services were in attendance and sadly, a man was pronounced dead at the scene. His family are aware. The bridge has since been re-opened.”
